200 & 204 Genesee Street, The Burg
200 & 204 Genesee Street, The Burg
The corner of Genesee Street and Hudson Street.
200 Genesee Street: Once upon a time this was Henry Kamp Shoe
Repair according to my records:) This is the corner building.
204 Genesee Street: Once upon a time this was Mary Erdie's Tavern
according to my records:) This is the white building.
Update: 204 Genesee Street was Istvan Parichy's Bar in 1957
and was run by Ernie Kovacs parents. It was where our SJBill
AKA William Schultz met Ernie Kovacs and Edie Adams in 1957:)
UPDATE:
SJBill adds..
200 Genesee also used to be a ceramics shop owned by Gladys
Orosz. I'd have entered this earlier, but I could not
recall the name until now. Parichy's was a great neighborhood
bar, but it didn't have quite as much "action" as Gliba's. In
my mind, I can still see Mr. Kovacs behind the bar. Mrs.
Kovacs, Mary Erdie, Johnny Erdie, I remember an Evelyn and a
few others from that place. It's tough to recall the exact
relationships after all this time.
