Once Zips Steak House, Chambers Street, The Burg

Once Zips Steak House, Chambers Street, The Burg
I cannot tell you how much we loved and miss this place.
Good food, good people, good times:)

My great uncle and Godfather, Guy ("Zip") Zeppadoro, was the
original Zip. If you ever played or watched men's softball,
well, you knew my Godfather - legendary "team owner"
My cousin, Angelo ("Little Zip") took over when Uncle Zip
"retired," although I don't think he ever truly retired.
But he did spend a fair amount of time at the old Soldiers
and Sailors club, as I recall.
Uncle Zip was a truly memorable character ... in a section
of the city that was FULL of characters! He was married to
my paternal grandfather's "baby sister" Ada. They lived in
the 200 block of Washington Street. Uncle Zip passed away a
few years ago. Miss him still - one of a kind,
just irreplaceable.

John Such was a part of Zip's Steakhouse for years.

He (Zip) got his rolls from Barbero's Bakery. You know what
made his burgers popular was he has a charcoal grill and no
other restaurants had one. The drivers were Ray he was with
him a long time Dennis, John had a lot of drivers.

Thank You John & Linda.

I still remember the order I so often called in:
2 California Cheeseburgers(AKA CCBs)..2 Orders of Fries..
and 2 Tabs:) We did get other stuff at times but the CCB
was our favorite.
