HI MAC...THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR ARTICLE 0N THE
1948 SCHROTHS. THAT WAS SOME YEAR FOR THEM AND MADE
UP FOR THE TIME I PLAYED FOR THE SCHROTHS IN 1936.
MY BROTHER LOU AND I DROVE TO INDIANAPOLIS TO WATCH
THE FINALS AND ALONG WITH MANY OTHER LOCAL PEOPLE
WITNESSED THE GREAT WIN. MY TEAM MATE ON THE 1936
TEAM, BUS SAIDT, ANNOUNCED THE GAME ON THE RADIO
AND REALLY GOT EXCITED WHEN MY BROTHER CHUCK STOLE
HOME IN THE FIRST INNING. WE MISSED THE PARADE FOR
THE TEAM IN TRENTON BUT WAS GLAD TO HAVE MADE THE
TRIP. BEST REGARDS.

Hi Ralph:)
Thanks for this great story which I shall add to the post.
I note that according to Yahoo Maps, Indianapolis Indiana is 664 miles from Trenton NJ and that is with the modern Turnpikes and Highways going there now which may not have been there in 1948.
Bus Saidt lived on Liberty Street
near South Broad Street in the 50s and 60s..not far from us.
God Bless The Old Burg Days:)

HI MAC...YOU'RE SO RIGHT ABOUT THE DRIVE TO INDIANAPOLIS. WE DROVE IN AN OLD CAR AND HAD 2 FLAT TIRES ON THE WAY. BUT WE MADE IT AND WERE GLAD TO HAVE MET "DIZZY" DEAN AND MANY OTHER BIG LEAGUE SCOUTS WHO WERE INTERESTED IN THE KIDS PLAYING. BEST REGARDS.

My name is Jeff Holford and I am Ronnie's youngest son. I've heard the stories about the Schroths my entire life and I am greatful for them. My Dad has been an inspiration not only in my athletic endeavors, but my life in general. My Dad still has the trophy ball that was given to the players for winning the state championship. The ball was supposedly signed by Babe Ruth, but we tried to have the signature authenticated by PSA and they found it to be a "secretarial signature". Does anyone know if any of the balls given that year have been authenticated as true Babe Ruth signatures? My Dad and I would be curious to know...Thanks for the Blog!
