Happy Columbus Day.
I hope everyone had a happy Columbus Day yesterday. This
is a new fall picture of the Columbus statue I took a

HI MAC.... THE DEAFIES, WHICH IS WHAT THE OLD TIMERS
FROM THE BURG CALLED THE PARK, HAS COME A LONG WAY
THROUGH THE YEARS. I RECALL WHEN TRENTON HIGH WAS
RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET AND THE SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF
WAS LOCATED ON THE GROUNDS. THE SOUND OF TROLLEY
CARS ON HAMILTON AVE. AND EVEN HORSE AND WAGON USED
BY RAG MEN WERE AROUND. EVERYONE SLEPT ON THEIR
PORCHES IN THE SUMMER AND NEVER LOCKED THEIR DOORS.
AND BEN AND SAMMY LIGHT WERE SELLING FURNITURE TO
FOLKS FOR 50 CENTS A WEEK. THEY WERE JEWISH BUT
SPOKE ITALIAN BETTER THAN I DID. ONE OF THE LIGHT
GIRLS PLAYED OPPOSITE TONY DANZA IN "WHOSE THE
BOSS" ON TV. YOU SEE MAC, THAT'S ABOUT ALL I DO

Good Evening! I'm also recalling old times in the Trenton area. As an infant in the early 50s, we lived on Greenwood Ave. Rented from the Lights and the actress lived either upstairs or downstairs from us (so I'm told!). So much has changed. Live in Somerset Co. and try to get down there when I can. Enjoying your blog....just found it! THANKS!

I remember a fireworks display over the park one year on Columbus Day. A fireworks master was employed, name forgotten, but it was Italian. Scardone? Something like that. This was a daytime display. One explosion resulted in a little flag floating to the ground. A wondrous thing. Fifty years later, memory still vivid.
Yes it was the Scardone family who did fireworks. Your memory is very good:)
