Fall Comes To Dayton Street, Franklin Park

Fall Comes To Dayton Street, Franklin Park
This is very familiar to my family because when there
was no parking on Liberty Street we would turn on
Howell Street onto Dayton Street onto Brown Street
and park there. The corner of Dayton Street and
Brown Street was the place my Dad Ed MacNicoll
would park his car if we were going to get heavy
snow:)

Lord, Dayton Street brings to mind some folks I knew a long time ago. "Pop" was a dump truck driver for a large government body (wink), and all the fellows would hit the Burg tap rooms in the afternoon. Of course they would "hide" the truck.

One afternoon they lost the truck and over a week went by before it was found in an abandoned part of a factory. Sadly, the second lost truck was never found so if you for some reason open the doors of your large garage or warehouse and there is a large green 1968 Mack (perhaps), dumper in there I'll pass that along.

Hi Skip & Ralph:)
LOL @ Garbage truck story Skip:)
and yes Ralph, in a car or on a bike or on foot I passed your house on 13 Howell Street thousands and thousands of times.
The sidewalk on the Dinger Brothers side of that Howell Street block got higher as you drove to the end of the block, which made it a fun place to ride my bike:)

I grew up on Butler Street, went to St Joachim's Grammar School from Kindergarten to 8th grade graduated in 1960 went on to St Mary's Cathedral and graduated ther in 1964. I have so many great memories of growing up in the "Burg" My uncle Lando worked for the New Colonial and New Peoples Bakery's for years until he retired and I know Jr Bencievengo who owned Landolfi's Bakery on Butler Street after mr Landolfi retired. What great pastries OMG What would I give to have some of his Cannoli's right now here in Kentucky. It is so good to read these blogs and see the pictures posted here. When I figure out how to do it i have a few good ones that I can post....
I sure do miss living in such a close knit community as we had there, so close to family and friends. I have 6 acres here and haven't seen my neighbor in 2 weeks. Sometimes that ok too......
but I also can't get good Italian food. That's not good.
