Mack, Here are a few more auto related businesses in and around the burg area.
My old hangout, P & R Auto Body, owned by Tony Parno and Bob Reither, located at the corner of Bridge and Center Sts. I spent many a day there, working on my 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air, between 1959 and 1963.
Sunset Motors, a used car dealership, on South Broad, near Pat's Diner.
Chico's Harley Davidson, on South Broad across from Marsh's Hobby Shop. Later they moved across the street.
O'Keefe Motors, on Samuel St. just a couple of doors down from Kistardt Auto Body. They sold a variety of marques, including Crosley, Willys, Austin, Hillman Minx, Humber, possibly MG, Morris, and other British cars. When I was 9 years old, my father brought me there to see the new 1948 Tucker. The Tucker never got off the ground and only 53 cars were built. It was quite a car, with a flat six rear engine and outstanding styling.
Ferry Auto Supply got me started selling auto parts and memorabilia in 1964/65. He retired and closed up. I purchased a lot of his stock out of the basement. Parts from 1930 to the 1950s. I was selling out of the trunk of a new 1964 Chevrolet Impala. I continued selling for the next 45 years.
Those were the days. Where did they go? rayfromvillapark

The car junkie in me recognized that name Tucker and went to Torpedo. Looked like a Stude and was ahead of it's time but in a wild ride they went out of business quicker than a torpedo could?

This torpedo sank Franklin (Air Cooled Engine Company), that made lots of profit in aviation and now I know why they were there and then were gone. Wiki in Tucker cars for the story.

Ray, can you remember who ended up with the MG dealership. I know that Angelo's on Prospect had Triumph. Please don't remind me of the AC Bristol that I turned down there in late 1967. It had a Ford 260 V-8, ending up out at the Photomat in Yardville and was for sale for years. Anyone want to guess what that was and what it's worth now? Angelo wanted $650 for it. Ray is turning blue right about now.

Skip, Angelo sold MG, Jaguar and Triumph at the Prospect St location. I met Angelo in around 1970. He got into trouble (something to do with titles and fraud. Can't remember the details), and lost the franchise.
MG stopped building cars in 1980 and I don't think anyone sold them locally after Angelo.
I bought some MG NOS parts out of the storage trailers behind the building, and just last fall, I sold an MG B convertible top boot that I had held on to for nearly 40 years.
There was a dealer in Eatontown right up until the end.
The AC Bristol ran with a 6 cyl. Bristol engine and the AC Ace ran with a Ford Zephyr 6 cylinder engine. The car you remember was a Ford Cobra, first with a 289 V8 and later with a 427 Ford V8. These were very fast and are now worth somewhere near a million dollars. Production was around 500 cars, built by Carroll Shelby. rayfromvillapark

ray, I had a 79/80 and it was the best MG I ever had. Sad, that by the time they got it right they were done.

I guess Angelo had anything Leyland; MG, Triumph & Rover all except Jag.

He also had Fiat. He was offering a sweet deal on an 850 Sport Coupe but the thing was just too slow for words.

Hi Ray & Skip.
My contribition to car talk:
My Dodge Neon can smoke an Escort
or Yugo at a traffic light !!
I floor it and go 0-60 in 4 minutes
and exclaim "eat my dust!". LOL
