Joe DeMarie was a fellow that came into Sam's "La Roma Pizzaria" near the end of its run. And Pizzaria is the way the big letters on the sign out front read. In smaller letter, it said "Tomato Pies." I belive he took over the business after Sammy hung up his apron.

Joe was a nice guy, a bit quieter than Sam, and Sam was quiet. Joe used the old oven pretty well, too.

The last time I went to the place before it closed. I brought along a few co-workers from Western Electric out in Hopewell. I'm pretty sure we all had a few pops out at Murphy's Chuckwagon in Ewing, and then did a tour of some Burg spots, beginnign with LaRoma.

The co-workers were engineers and graduates of the U. of Wisconsin.

They recalled a place out there - Pizano' Pizza - that they claimed was incredible, and it may well have been very good. My guests felt the pie from La Roma was superior a product in every respect.

We might have done Quinnie's after Sam's, and fianlly we closed the night at Count Felix's.

Talk about an evening to remember!

Hi SJ.
Love your comment:)
Any guestimate of what year this
might have been?

Mack, my time at Western Electric was 1968 through 1970, so I'll guess this was Summer to Fall of 1969.

That's my story and I'm sticking with it. ;-)
