Emory Avenue On A Winter Day, The Burg
Emory Avenue On A Winter Day, The Burg
This picture was taken today. It was taken by me
at the corner of Roebling Avenue and Emory Avenue.
Emory Avenue goes on for one more block here before
ending at Hudson Street. You can see part of the
Roebling Factory Complex in the distance.
The Old Washington Playground AKA Agabiti Park is
at the corner of Roebling Avenue and Emory Avenue
but that is not in this picture:)

MY OLD HOUSE WHERE I WAS BORN,GREW UP, WENT TO SCHOOL, THE PARK, I MET MY FIRST FRIEND, HAD MY FIRST FIGHT, DRANK MY FIRST BEER. A PLACE WERE A LIFE ONCE LIVED, A HOUSE WERE I CAN PROBALY STILL EVEN AFTER GONE 10 YEARS CAN TELL YOU EVERY SOUND, EVERY CREAK,EVERY TAP. A PLACE WERE A LOVED ONE PASSED ANOTHER 2, THAT LEFT; 1 LIVING 1 GONE. SO MUCH LIFE IN ONE PLACE FOR OVER 40 YEARS.IF THERE IS NO ENERGY OF THE PAST THAT LINGERS IN THAT HOME. I MAYBE GEORGE WASHINGTON; TO SEE IT IN THIS PHOTO BRINGS TEARS OF SADNESS, OF A TIME THAT ONCE WAS AND HAS LONG BEEN GONE.SO MUCH OF ONE'S LIFE IN ONE AREA, SO MUCH OF A LIFE THAT YOU CAN NEVER SHED YOUR IDENITY OR WHO YOU ARE. SURE THAT BIG SINGLE HOUSE WITH THE HUGE BACKYARD IN THE BURBS IS GREAT, BUT 38 YEARS OF ONE'S PAST, IS ALWAYS WERE I WAS BORN
I was only 10 when we moved out of the "Burg" in 1999. By that time I got to experience the tail-end of a whirlwind of wonderful stories and history so rich it gives me the chills. Emory Ave was a life that seems so long ago but I can remember like it was just yesterday. I still dream about that house and wish I could have lived in a time that Chambersburg is famous for.
