When I worked at Frank's, there was this gentleman from Steele's who always came in our store to shop. A really nice guy on the heavy side, he worked or co-owned Steele's, I can't remember his name at all. I want to say Bob, if anyone knows fill me in.
Cute 1'st grade picture Smiley.
it was Charlie Steel, owner , and I believe that his delivery man was also named Charlie.. owner Charlie was a sweet guy, at Christmas he would always give me the pine branches he trimmed off his holiday arrangements, took them home and they gave the Christmas smell to the house. it was real nice since we had an aluminum tree with the spinning color wheel... LOL my God, we thought that it was the way to go... so tacky, but with it at the time..
Steveb: Thanks that was him Charlie. See what I mean he was a nice guy to know. God Bless Him.
Mack, Wasn't there a tomato Pie restaurant to the left of Steele's (the name escapes me) They made a pretty good pie (1950's). Ferry's Auto Supply was on the corner of Hudson and Broad. I bought a truck load of NOS parts from the basement, when he retired. To the right past the buildings, was Marcine Motors, owned by Dick Marcine, who lived on Fairmount Ave. in Villa Park. Previous to opening the car lot, Dick was a sales manager at Hudler Ford, way down South Broad, across from the Broad St. Diner. Dick had a beautiful light Green 1949 Ford Convertible with his name on the doors and the Ford in your Future Globe in the middle, and Hudler Ford underneath. This car was so cool, I used to walk over to admire it many, many times.
