501 Tyler Street, East Trenton
Once upon a time this was Charles Allen's
Grocery Store.
This is a new picture of this I took a few days ago.
Linda Chell Rooney adds:
Now I do remember it being Allen's Market, but when I was a kid,
it was just "the corner store" to all of us on Tyler Street. They
had penny candy like you couldn't believe and pretty much every
staple you could possibly need in an emergency (remember walking
there in the snow for my mom to get "bread and milk"). We would
collect bottles and turn them in (2 cents for small Coke bottles,
5 cents for large Kerns soda bottles) ... Peanut Butter TandyTakes
came 3 to a pack, wrapped in waxed paper not plastic, and were
13 cents (my favorite to this day)!
Thank You Linda:)
