1052 South Clinton Avenue, The Burg
Once and maybe still the Levin Candy Company. One of those
interesting minor feats of architecture in the Burg. Its sorta
triangle shaped. This is a new picture of this:)
A Blog about the Chambersburg area of Trenton NJ. The Burg we all loved and miss. If you were from the Burg I hope many of the pictures and lists and comments under them from good folks bring back some nice memories. Villa Park, Franklin Park, South Trenton, and nearby Hamilton also mentioned. Use the search box atop the blog to find schools, churches, streets, stores, bars etc that you remember. Over 4000 posts and 3000 pics. Enjoy:)

If I am not mistaken, back when I was a kid, this was the home of the Coleman Poultry market, mom used to go there any buy live chickens, she would pick one out of the cage, they would weigh it, with all it's feathers and inards, the kill and pluck it while you waited... also if I remember correctly, the Levin candy used to be right across the street from where I grew up ... on the corner of Genesee and Roebling.. when the poulty market closed, Levin took over the building...
This was Coleman's Poultry Market for sure. I remember the trucks full of chickens (in their stacked wooden cages) that used to park behind the place on Rusling Street.
For a while at least, I think that Levin Candy was located in a space between Coleman's and Lavinthal's Shoes (which was at Clinton and Chestnut). Steve, before that, it may have been on Genesee and Roebling, but I have no memory of that.
Candy Wholesalers in the area
in the 1950s:
Ace Candy Company 1033 S Clinton

Herman Levin 1064 S Clinton
Pitt Candy&Toy 229 S Clinton

I do know there was a candy supplier on the corner of Genesee and Roebling, it may not have been Levins, it was not a candy store like Kovach's on Clinton it was more a bulk supplier.. candy by the large box...they were there but I couldnt go in and buy a candy bar...
