Immaculate Conception Church, A Rear View, The Burg

Immaculate Conception Church, A rear view, the Burg.
Taken from the parking lot.
When you parked in the lot you came in the church through
that side door. Remember?
We often attended 6PM Sunday Mass and after Church services
were over when we got home the first thing we did
was turn on the TV to see the late football scores and
the remaining part of any games late in the 4th quarter.
The church was usually packed with people as I remember:)

When I was little, this area was a garden, with lawn, flowers, plants and walks for the priest reflect and pray. It was surrounded by the high wall that still exists.

Barb P,

I'm thinking that the garden, walkway, etc. was in the area behind the priest's refectory. The high wall along Division Street began a few houses away from the corner at Kent and ran clear to the nun's convent across from the cigar factory. I only remeber the area directly behind the chuch as being used as a parking lot on Sundays and where the Trenton Catholic Boys would congregate and do their PE drills on weekdays. As an altar boy we would always enter the sacristy from the steps just around the corner from the AC units shown in this photo. There was a high fence separating the area behind the church and the area behind the refectory. I can't swear to it but I believe the priests who taught at Trenton Catholic and the priests for Immaculate were all in the same refectory which might explain its huge size and why there may have been a walking area and garden behind their residence.
