400 Hamilton Avenue, The Burg

400 Hamilton Avenue, The Burg
Once upon a time this was Bethany Presbyterian Church.
A beautiful building often passed by on foot or in a
car back in my Burg days :)

Back in 1963-64 as a sergeant on the Safety Patrol of Immaculate Conception grammar school, this corner was my assigned spot every morning. There wasn't more than a dozen or so ICS students to cross here as it was much more convenient to cut through Columbus Park for those coming from the Cambers Street area. I did get to see a lot of car traffic heading to work in downtown Trenton.

I had the corner of Kent and Division at ICS as a crossing guard. Same years as you. By any chance did you have Sr Calverea? (Not sure of name now.)
It was a very safe corner. Mob pool parlor right there. :)

I just saw your comment. I had Sr. Calvaria in fifth grade at ICS (1960-1961). Don't recall her with fondness. Sixth grade was no better with Sr. Iphigenia/Ephigenia. She was about 4'8" and spoke with an Irish brogue. A ruler across the knuckles fanatic.

Ditto Sr Calvaria and Sr Ephigenia. Not faves for sure. That wooden ruler! At the corner of Kent and Division was a pool parlor/hangout where absolutely nothing untoward ever happened. Perfect location for a school crossing guard with the goofy white belt and the shiny badge.
