Baseball Cards & Bikes

Attaching Baseball Cards to your bike with a clothes pin so they would

go through the spokes when you you rode made you Joe Cool in the Burg when you were a kid. Looking at the value of those cards now,

was it worth it? Yes..Coolness was priceless.

Does anyone remember Al Downing from Trenton. He played baseball and went on to play major league.

Al played for the Yankees for awhile...never did go anywhere.

How about Bo Belinkski?

Remember them both, Al Downing was famous for giving Hank Aaron the home run that broke Babe Ruth's record of 714. Bo Belinski pitched a no hitter for California Angels. He hung around with Mamie Van Doren. I think he's dead.

Bo had a sister...don't remember her name...she sang with a band I played with Kurt & the Hot Spots...The Cove...Pig & Whistle...Satellite Lounge..and another bar in Wrightstown???

Famous Bo quote after throwing a no-hitter....
"If I'd known I was gonna pitch a no-hitter today, I would have gotten a haircut."

How about Elvin Bethea who played football at THS ('64 grad?) and was a former American football defensive end who played his entire career with the Houston Oilers.

I remember putting Yankee baseball cards in my bike wheel spokes, because I was a Philly fan. Phillie cards now worth $0, Yankee cards now worth $$$$$. If I just had the Mickey Mantle cards back!!!

Barb: Phillies fan also, now if only the Eagles can win. Lost many an old baseball card to pitching against the wall or flipping them to match. When my boys were little I started a baseball card collection for them, have sets of cards sealed. Checked them out only worth a few cents these days. Only if Mom did not clean house so much back then.

Barb: Us Iggles fans are smiling today. I have a bunch of Eagle stuff. Back when the kids were little all I did was write to the team and they sent you signed pictures, programs, pencils a whole load of stuff. Probably now you would get an application for season tickets.
