The "modern" Capital Motors building had not yet been built. During this period there were two tracks at this S. Broad St. crossing, and the Pennsy Railroad had not changed over to diesel engines. My Mom and I would walk from our house to this crossing and watch the steam trains pass by.

Crossing guards manually operated the gates from controls within the little shack, just barely visible.

Black coal smoke, white steam, loud whistles and gate crossing operation was pretty exciting stuff for a two year old.
