Casandrino

Casandrino, Italy

Where the Lady we celebrated in the feast of lights in
the Burg was from. They still celebrate her there I
am told. Thank You for the use of this picture Paul
Belardo:)

HI MAC....WHILE IN ROME, MY WIFE AND I DECIDED TO VISIT CASANDRINO TO SEE MY MOTHER'S RELATIVES. WE CAUGHT A TRAIN TO NAPLES AND NEARBY WERE BUSSES TO CASANDRINO AND GRUMO, BOTH JUST A SHORT DISTANCE FROM NAPLES. THIS WAS IN THE 1970'S IN AUGUST WHILE ALL OF ITALY WAS ON VACATION. MY FATHER WAS FROM GRUMO, WHICH ADJOINS CASANDRINO. ON THE BUS I ASKED IN MY BROKEN ITALIAN IF THEY KNEW THE DeCARLO'S AND THEY REPLIED SI AND TOOK US TO THE STREET WHERE THEY LIVED. IT WAS ON A SUNDAY WHEN THE ITALIANS REALLY EAT A BIG MEAL AND WE SURPRISED THEM. MY MOTHER HAD SPENT 3 MONTHS THERE THE PAST YEAR WITH A GROUP FROM ST. JOACKIMS AND THEY WERE VERY GLAD TO SEE US. OUR RELATIVES LIVE JUST NEXT TO THE CHURCH AND WE HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THE FEAST OF LIGHTS AND SOME OF THE OTHER SECTIONS OF CASANDRINO. IN LATTER YEARS WE RETURNED WITH OUR FRIENDS FROM REVERE AVE. AND STAYED A LITLE LONGER. BEST REGARDS.
