Liberty & Revere Streetsign, Villa Park

Liberty & Revere Streetsign

When I see this I immediately think of the good coffee and
hoagies from Wawa when it was here. It was open 24 hours a
day for years until the city passed a law halting all
convienence stores after 11PM. I also now think of JoeZ and
Rosemary who lived on this block. My sister lived on
Liberty across the street for years. Good ole Villa Park:)

IT'S ME AGAIN MAC....ANOTHER FAV0RITE SECTION OF VILLA PARK WAS REVERE AVENUE. I HAD MANY FRIENDS ON THAT STREET THROUGHOUT THE YEARS. I JUST VISITED WITH FRANK PAGLIARO IN NORTH CAROLINA WHO WAS ONE OF THEM, HE LIVED NEAR JOE AND WE BOTH HIT 92 YEARS OLD THIS YEAR. HIS BROTHER LAW, FELIX FORCONI, AND OTHERS LIKE EDDIE MOUNT, FRED DeBRONZO, GEORGE HODANISH AND MANY OTHERS ON REVERE AVENUE. I RECALL TAKING FREDDIE'S KIDS TO THE WAWA FOR ICE CREAM. IT SURE BRINGS BACK PLEASANT MEMORIES. BEST REGARDS

Hi Ralph:)
I cant believe the Wawa is no longer there at Liberty & Revere but alas time marches on. I have heard a rumor Wawa corp is interested in the old Mackrancys Flowers site on Chambers Street near what was once Old Borough Savings & Loan. That site is big enough for them to make both a Wawa store and gas station:)

Old Borough Savings and Loan was never on Chamber St. It started on I believe S. Broad and Roebling next to the Post office, then moved to S. Broad and Capner St near the city line. It also had branches a few doors down from Friendly's, White Horse & Kuser and a branch on Scotch Road in Ewing. They are on longer in business. The Bank across the street from Mackrancys I believe was a branch of the United Savings and Loan.

Hi JoeB.
I had an account with Old Borough Savings & Loan and remember going to the branch on Chambers Street to cash my check because Zips Steakhouse was down the street and I would do lunch there. Roma Bank bought that branch and the Broad Street branch near the Hamilton border at the same time after Old Borough went out of business. Bank buildings often change hands so its easy to see how someone might forget all the banks that were there, but yes Old Borough was once across from Mackrancys on Chambers Street.

Mack and Ralph: Saw Ralph mention Felix Forconi, he lived one door from us the nicest gentleman you ever wanted to meet. Many times he filled my boys bikes with air.
