The Aroma and Flavor of Life

The Aroma and Flavor of Life

They say that popular music of your era is the soundtrack
of life. I agree. I also make the case that some aromas and
flavors bring back memories the same way music can.
I can remember the taste of a bologna sandwich after it was
in a metal lunchbox for a few hours... with a Tasty Cake on
the side. I can taste my Mother's Macaroni or Potato Salad
just by thinking about them. I remember Mom made Breaded
Veal Cutlets which had a great aroma and flavor. I remember
Moms Lentle Soup which tasted great and she would make typically
after we had ham for Easter or Christmas. I remember Mom
telling us we had to eat the Lentle Soup because Jesus ate
Lentle Soup.. but she didnt need the Deity's help as the soup
was delicious. Part of many Holiday Meals right after prayers
was "Oh, Dad made the Gravy". I bet everyone reading this
remembers how their Mom or Dad or Grandma etc created food
that had its Aroma and Flavor which now can be remembered
almost like a song that brings back the feelings of days
long ago:)

Speaking of aromas, does anyone remember when the Stokley plant was in operation on Lalor St, the smell of the tomatoes all over south Trenton or the smell of the fresh donuts from Prior Bakery on S Clinton and Liberty...

You could tell what season it was by the smell of the plant.

Everything was still by the seasons in the 50's and 60's and the smell was wonderful toward mid and late summer with the tomato crop rolling in from the farms.

I dated a farm girl back then and small fortunes rolled in at that time of year. Talk of could you get a better price from Campbell's down in Camden or Stokley.

Many of the locals could tell exactly what they were making by how much vinegar was in the air. Catsup or pork and beans I think?
