The Bijou Theatre 1980, The Burg

The Bijou Theatre 1980, The Burg
South Clinton Avenue. This was a church all of my
Burg day but was the Bijou Theatre for many years
until the early 1960s. A cool looking building.
You can see Jerry's next to it in the picture.
Hard to believe 1980 was 30 years ago.
God Bless The Old Burg:)

UPDATE:
Ralph Lucarella adds...
Hi Mack: The Bijou and the RKO Broad were the theatres
most people in the Burg went to during the 30s. I'm
gonna comment that it's hard to believe that 1930 is
80 years ago. The big reason they went there was it
cost only 10 cents. When we went downtown to a
theatre in those days, it was like a holiday. We saw
the same movies in the Burg at the Bijou and Broad,
only a litle later. Best Regards.

Hey Mack and Ralph:

The Bijou known as the "BYE JOE" in my less
sophisticated early childhood years. We had no idea
that it was really pronounced "Bee-zhoo." Not only did
"Burgers" go the Bijou and RKO Broad, so did kids in my
neighborhood. The walk was a piece of cake back then:
Down Hartley Avenue to Sylvan, up Sylvan to Liberty,
down Liberty to Broad, right on Broad Street and there
we were, and a few blocks away to the "BYE-JOE." Egad,
was I ever that young?
