A Blog about the Chambersburg area of Trenton NJ. The Burg we all loved and miss. If you were from the Burg I hope many of the pictures and lists and comments under them from good folks bring back some nice memories. Villa Park, Franklin Park, South Trenton, and nearby Hamilton also mentioned. Use the search box atop the blog to find schools, churches, streets, stores, bars etc that you remember. Over 4000 posts and 3000 pics. Enjoy:)

Well, it has to be before 1950. Back then we had 7 digit numbers and that is a five.
Our number when I was a kid was Export 60037.
That also pegged that I came from the North side of town. There was also Owen (OW), that put you in Lawrence. Tuxedo was West and I'll be darned if I can remember what the Burg was. You could carry a number so it was not etched in stone however.

My buddy was, like Tome Glover, the historian for Trenton. He said that Scott-Taylor Pharmacy later at Olden and Spruce was originally in the State & Broad area and they had the first phone in Trenton with the phone number being #1.
I remember a tour of the old Bell Tell building where many ladies worked and each call had to be connected by a hand plug in. And there was "yes operator I would like to call collect" or "long distance".
