The Bank at South Broad Street and Market Street, Trenton
I remember this bank in my days working for the Welfare
Department in the old Sears building. We would walk up the
hill past Mill Hill Park and Sykes Liquor Store and past
the Newspaper/Magazine Stand along the side of this bank
building (part of that can be seen in the picture) into
the Bank to get some money. Joe's Mill Hill Saloon is
across the street as was Felix Deli a few stores down.
Felix made magnificent hoagies...half a number #9 with
no mayo !! (number #9 was turkey hoagie)..
What a nice looking building this is. I am sure many
Burg folks like me were in it at least a few times:)

In the 1950's across from the bank which would be Sykes's and all the way to Broad, I remember a number of stores operated by the old traditional Jewish folks. They had tanks with live Carp and such swimming. Dad said that the the orthodox would only eat a fish they saw swimming.
There as a bakery in there too and they we would walk by the Mercer Courthouse which, at least he told me, had prisoners housed in the basement, and they would take your cookie!

Hi Skip. There was a Sykes liquor store in the area too..at least in my early 80s days working for the
county in the old sears building:)
It was the same family. There was a gal who lived almost next to Joe Z's buddy Bob who married "The Sykes" boy as they called him.
I think they had the holding cells in the basement of the jail along Market and the windows with bars faced the street. I would hide that bag of cookies as I dad and I walked by on our way to Stacey Park.
The first air mail by "chopper" would depart for the Philadelphia Post Office from a spot in the park just north of the Trenton Makes Bridge.
