Kerns Soda In All Its Glory

Kerns Soda In All Its Glory.
Thanks for this great picture Tom Krawiec.
I miss Kerns soda but what a cool picture of
it this is:)

UPDATE

Mack, Best soda ever, loved the root beer and vanilla
cream. I think I use to grab one when we ate tomato
pie at Sam's on So. Broad St. or as the proper name
was LaRoma.

They came in wooden crates that they would stack out behind the store or in a garage.

Fun in the summer was going on a scavenging hunt by the factories where the workers would sit outside for lunch and have a sandwich and soda. They would often leave the bottles since they felt sorry for us. We would sit and wait like vultures or hawks and between Trenton Pipe & Nipple, Mitchell-Bissle Tile and Trenton Sportswear, you could get certainly enough for a soda and candy bar with that handsome 2 cents a bottle return rate and real luck was finding a quart of Kearns that would command a whopping 5 cents on return.

Cream for me thanks. Hires for root beer but for "cherry wishniak" it was Kearns. Canada Dry for ginger ale and that new stuff, "Doctor Pepper".

Fun was just trying to say ..

"Briars Bark Brewed Birch Beer bottled by Best Brand Beverages"

IN ADDITION TO KERNS, WE HAD CARABELLI BEVERAGES AND A FEW OTHERS. I DON'T RECALL COCA COLA BEING AS POPULAR AS IT IS TODAY. THE COLA DRINKS HAD TOO MUCH GAS AND COULD'NT COMPETE WITH THE MANY DIFFERENT FLAVORS OF THE OTHERS. MY FAVORITE DRINK WAS HOME MADE ROOT BEER MADE BY MY GRANDMOTHER. THE ONLY REASON I LEARNED TO SPEAK ITALIAN WHEN I WAS A KID WAS TO ASK HER TO MAKE THE MANY THINGS AN ITALIAN GRANDMOTHER COULD MAKE. BEST REGARDS.

Hi Ralph & Skip

5 cents for returns in my early
youth. there was an icehouse at
Rusling & Liberty...older kids would leave bottles under its loading dock..collect 5 and get a quarter. a quarter bought a soda a bag of chips and a candy bar.

Never heard of Carabelli Soda
thanks for mentioning that Ralph:)

Skip you are like the 3rd person to mention Cherry Wishniak:)

Cherry Wisniak was great but the one I liked was made by Frank's Beverages out of Philly. I miss that good old Stewart's Root Beer in that frosty mug. We had A&W down here but they closed all the places down.

I wonder if there are any descandants of Mr Kerns that we could interview. Anybody have a clue or know of any descandents ?

I loved the barrels of Birch beer the local tavern in South Trenton carried. Also one of our Girl Scout trips when the factory still gave tours.
