Doctor Joseph Gian-Grasso

Joseph A. Gian-Grasso, MD, of Trenton, passed away on
Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at Lankenau Hospital, Lower
Merion Township, Pa. Born in Trenton, he resided in the
Chambersburg section of Trenton for most of his life.
Dr. Gian-Grasso was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II
and the Korean Conflict. He had sea duty on the aircraft
carrier USS Bunker Hill, rising to the rank of Lt.
Commander. He attended St. Joachim's Grammar School,
Trenton High School, and received his bachelor's degree
from the University of Pennsylvania. He attended the State
University of New York-Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn,
N.Y. and the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School
of Medicine-Surgery. Dr. Gian-Grasso did his internship at
St. Francis Hospital, Trenton, and was an attending
physician and surgeon at St. Francis Hospital for over 53
years. His practice was located on Hamilton Avenue in the
Chambersburg section of Trenton. He was the recipient of
the Golden Merit Award from the Medical Society of New
Jersey and a lifetime member of the American Academy of
Family Physicians. Dr. Gian-Grasso loved his family, his
profession, his patients, and all things Italian. He
tirelessly cared for his Chambersburg community with
heartfelt compassion and kindness always. He will surely
be missed . Son of the late Bartolomeo and Carolina
DiMiele Giangrasso, brother of the late August and Carmen
Giangrasso, Lena Chianese, Rose M. Russo, he is survived
by his wife of 65 years, Helen M. Brennan Gian-Grasso;
four sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Joseph E. and Janice
M. Gian-Grasso of Gladwyne, Pa., Dr. Thomas A. and Sharon
Giangrasso of Ledgewood, Robert A. and Anne Marie
Giangrasso of Pennington, and Christopher A. and Kate
Giangrasso of Radnor, Pa.; a daughter and son-in-law,
Lisa G. and Scott Martin of Sumneytown, Pa.; a
sister-in-law, Marie Toscano; 13 grandchildren; and many
nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins
and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial was held
privately at Our Lady of the Angels Parish/Saint
Joachim's Church, Trenton. Burial in Our Lady of Lourdes
Cemetery, Hamilton Township, was also private.
