What a great photo. Caps and knickers? They almost look dressed up? But shorts in church must have been a no-no?

We froze our a$$e$ off out there in the Winter time - we just stood there in slush while the nasty Trenton winds blew right through our wool coats.
A few of us had Jon-E hand warmers that we got as Christmas gifts, purchased from Harry Levy's Hardware store on S. Broad.
Of course we had to load the hand warmer with Ronson's lighter fluid and get the thing burning with a pack of matches, but that's what it was all about aback then. We were prepared.
While on duty we weren't allowed to throw snowballs, smoke or goof around. Imagine that! And we couldn't leave our posts until we were told it was OK to go home by the Lieutenant (with a red badge) or the Captain (with the blue badge.
ANybody remember Officer Chick Dennis? He was the police advisor to us kids.
