Fall Comes To South Clinton Avenue, Franklin Park

Fall Comes To South Clinton Avenue, Franklin Park
South Clinton Avenue just keeps going from South
Trenton to the Burg to Franklin Park to Broad
Street Park in Hamilton and on to Colonial Manor
in Hamilton before it ends at Whitehorse Avenue.
My Aunt Ethyl and Uncle Don Snyder owned Snyders
Bar on South Clinton Avenue in Franklin Park.

HI MAC....THAT SECTION OF COLONIAL MANOR WAS VERY APPEALING TO US IN THE 1940'S. MY BROTHER LOU AND I BOUGHT LOTS ON PARK LANE OR WAS IT PARK AVE. FOR ABOUT $150.00 FROM THE TOWNSHIP. LOU FINALLY BOUGHT A HOME ON PARK LANE IN BROMLEY FOR $6,500.OO. IT'S JUST HARD TO BELIEVE THAT YOU COULD BUY LOTS AND HOUSES AT THOSE PRICES IN THOSE DAYS.

I remember in about 1966 or so they had tiny lots with small 2 bed room "Capes" on LBI at Silver Sands toward Holgate and the base price was $5,000.

And a few years later I had my first job for about $6,000 a year. After taxes, that would net about $4,100 and .. food is a luxury item but you could live off the "sand which is there" .. nuk, nuk, and see Joe Z's daily mail for a perspective on the humble sandwich.
