Wetzel Field, Pitchers Mound View, Villa Park

Wetzel Field, Pitchers Mound View, Villa Park
This pitchers mound is where folks tried and failed to
get Ralph Lucarella out as he won the first half batting
title to his league one year. The Wetzel Field of my day
had some bleachers and a two story building behind home
plate but other than that and a few other changes it
feels like it did over 30 years ago when I go to Wetzel
Field:)

HI MAC....WETZEL FIELD IN MY DAY HAD AN INFIELD OF ALL DIRT. THE INFIELDERS HAD TO PUT UP WITH MANY OBSTACLES AND I GOT HIT WITH MANY BALLS HITTING ROCKS. MANY OF THE KIDS WOULD TURN THEIR HEADS AWAY AND THAT RESULTED IN MANY ERRORS. IT TOOK A LOT OF GUTS TO KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN. I DON'T RECALL WHEN THEY INSTALLED THE GRASS IN THE INFIELD BUT IT SURE LOOKS GREAT.

Hi Ralph:
The infield grass was there in my Burg day. Even with grass sometimes bouncers can be an adventure:))
