The Majestic Theatre, The Burg
The Majestic Theatre, The Burg
I think I found this on Tom Glovers great site. I have
never heard of the Majestic Theatre and have no idea
when it was there or what street it was on. Anyone
remember this or remembering hearing about this?
UPDATE:
Tom has responded to this by posting a new and better
version of the picture and a map showing where it was
located.

My friend Mike McNichol published a photo of the
Majestic Theater on his Chambersburg blog
http://mackstruckofwisdom.blogspot.com. It was from
one of my old scrapbooks and I have included it in the
Hamilton Library's "THEATERS" folder. It had a chip
out of the upper right part of the photo, and I have
repaird it and am posting it herewith in the event
that Mac wants to re-post it. I am also including an
aerial view of the location of that grand old and very
historic theater. The Majestic, along with the Star
Theater which was located at 7 South Broad Street in
Trenton (adjacent to the Broad St. Methodist Church)
were pioneer "theatres" in Trenton during the very
earliest years of the motion picture industry,. The
Star opened in 1908 and the Majestic in 1912.
As to the 800 block of South Broad Street and the
location of the Majestic, it is important to remember
that in the early years of Chambersburg' development,
that area from the Cass Street area over to Liberty
Street were sort of the "main street" of Chambersburg.
Thank You so much Tom, this is great:)

HI MAC.....I BELIEVE THE MAJESTIC MAY HAVE BEEN ON ASHMORE AVENUE WHERE LANDOLFI'S BUILDING IS LOCATED. I DON'T RECALL THE THEATRE BUT IT WAS PROBABLY AROUND WHEN THE B.B. THEATRE WAS RUNNING ON CHESTNUT AVE. THAT MOVIE SHOWED MOSTLY ITALIAN PICTURES AND DID'NT LAST LONG. MY MOTHER TOOK ME AND IT WAS BORING CAUSE AT THAT AGE I DID'NT UNDERSTAND ITALIAN WELL. REGARDS.
Hi Ralph:)
Tom has let us know where it was
and I have replaced the original
picture with his new one that includes an aerial view.
I think this South Broad Street place might have been Tom Petro's Gym in my Burg day.
Mack and Tom: This is such a great thing to see Trenton in it's hey days. I remember on many a Saturday night as a teen walking from granny's house on Home Ave. with Saxman's brother Lou, my cousin Tom and a friend Rich to go to the movies downtown and never worring about trouble. Those are the days I want to remember and I can not forget the many dinners in the Burg with Roe at LaGondola.
