601 Emory Avenue, The Burg.

601 Emory Avenue, The Burg.
The white building in the picture.
Once upon a time this was Harry's Fish Market according
to my records.

UPDATE

Ralph Lucarella adds...
Hi Mack: Excellent fish market. It was a favorite place
to buy live blue claw crabs. In my house crabs were a real
delicacy. We had them with fermicelli and tomato sauce.
Of all the things we ate in those days, crabs were among
the best. The hardest part was cleaning them alive before
we cooked them. That was my part and I got bit many times.
The crabs in restaurants were whole when cooked and just
did'nt taste the same.

Poultry markets? Wooden crates with the live chickens and capons; there was day when those were common as liquor stores. We got our chickens at Anthony's at the Freeway and Olden.

Fish? I am stumped on. The Crab Shack by the Farmers Market came much later?

I also remember the live tanks of Carp where the deli is next to Joes Mill Hill. Old Jewish shop keeps and dad said that the Orthodox would only eat a fish that they saw live.
