It looked just like this over 40 years later in my
Trenton High days of 1977-1980:)

Wow, what a blast from the past!
The organ was placed up in the small balcony above and to
the left of the stage. If I recall correctly, Donald O'Connor
performed on that very stage during 1962 or thereabouts.
Since the auditorium could not accomodate the full student
body - which was about 3000 students - only the senior class
got to see the show. The rest of us unfortunates were given
the day off, so we hung out in front of C-Building and counted
cars and females that passed-by (it's not like I was a huge
fan of Donald O'Connor, so it wasn't a big deal that we missed
out). See those seat backs? They were of laminated wood and
bent into shape thinking that would make them comfortable.
Nothing could have been further from the truth. They were nasty
to the back. I think the bottoms were of wood too, so you get
the picture. Down at the bottom of the seat backs, they were
attached to two metal brackets on each side with three short
wood screws. I am certain that slotted flat-head were used,
and the slots perfectly fit a US dime. Some of the more
troublesome "elements" of the sophomore class (not me, of
course, I only knew that "others" may have been involved)
went through the auditorium and removed two screws on either
side bracket and loosened the third so it easily pulled out
under the slightest pressure. When the senior class came in
and sat down for this special performance, many of the chair
backs fell off when they sat down. That'll fix 'em! ;-)
