Catherine Pica Talks About Her Dad Doctor Vincent Pica

Catherine Pica Talks About Her Dad Doctor Vincent Pica

Born March 31,1927,at 206 Hudson Street.where he lived till
he left for college. His father and mother were (another)
Vincent Pica (there were 17 of them) and Rose Iorio Pica.
Grandma owned a ladies' lingerie emporium, "Rose's Variety
Shoppe," a block away at 306 Hudson St, with scary 40's-style
mannequins clad in the bullet bras and whalebone girdles of
the day. My dad (Vincent) had an older brother, Elmer
(Italian name "Amodio,") and a younger brother, Don. Uncle
Elmer became a priest, and was Pastor for a diocese in
Brownstown, PA. Uncle Don worked for the State of NJ and
still lives on Hudson Street.
Dad's parents came to Ellis Island from Casandrino, Italy.
.. kind of a northern suburb of Naples. I actually found it
on Google Street View. Dad and his brothers went to Saint
Joachim's Grammar School and Church, where they were all
altar boys. Dad graduated from Trenton Catholic around 1945,
I'm guessing. He got an undergrad degree from Villanova, and
went on to Marquette Medical School in Wisconsin, where he
met my mother, Joan Meyer, who was Secretary to the Dean of
the Dental School. They married September 6, 1954, and had 3
children in each of the subsequent years. Mary Rose, Joe and
me (Cathy.) They took a breather for a couple years before
having my 2 younger sisters, Carole and Monica. They had our
house/office built on Nottingham Way between Mercerville and
Hamilton Square where we lived till I was 12. In the early
days Dad would have to go to the hospital at all hours of
the day and night to deliver babies . Later on he specialized
in the eye. He'd travel back and forth on the train to Newark
Eye and Ear Hospital while still maintaining his general
practice, which was attached to our house. Dad was never
really off duty because patients knew where he lived. My
sisters and I each worked for my dad in our late teens.
He never charged priests and nuns, and always gave a huge
discount to the needy.

Thank you for this Catherine, Its Wonderful. God Bless
Doctor Pica and his family:)

Catherine, I am a friend of your sister's, and admire her very much. It was so heartwarming to read about your dad, who was obviously quite an accomplished gentleman. Thank you for the information about him, and I am happy to know Mary Rose and learn about her family.

Dear Anonymous - I'm glad you are a fan of my sister. I'm sure she'd love to know who you are. Why don't you tell me your name so I can share the love?
