959-957-953-949-945 Liberty Street, The Burg.

959-957-953-949-945 Liberty Street, The Burg.

959 was once Dragon Inc Wholesale Radio & TV, then it
was Giquinto's Produce Store in my Burg Day.
957 was once Liberty Launderette long ago.
953 was once The Anne Lingerie Shoppe in the 1950s
and then Allied Equiptment School Furniture in the 1960s:)
949 was once Jason Frey Florist Shop and became a Hair
Cutting/Styling place in my Burg Day and the name escapes me.
945 Liberty was once Pep's Steak House from the 1950s to
my Burg Day. Pep's knew how to do onions on that Cheesesteak
and their Pizza and Pizza Rolls were good too
Pep's owners: Pasquale & Marie Ciliento :)

A long time ago, electronics was of the vacuum tube variety. I'm not sure exactly when, but transisitors started coming onto the scene in the late 50s.

Dragon Wholesale Radio & TV was one of the first distributors to carry and sell discrete transistors. The first transistor I ever bought was a 2N237 (PNP) which I used to make a small variable oscillator. I think I used money made from snow shoveling to buy it.

Yes, I took the project to seventh or eighth grade Science class to be reviewed by Mr. Ed Hirsch, our teacher, so this had to be 1958 or 1959.

The staff of Dragon was very helpful
and supportive, and so was the owner, Johnny Dragon. The store probably contributed to my becoming a techie.

Another thing I remember was that Dragon's was one of the first places to carry the new style phased array TV antennas intended for use with color TVs. My Dad bought a Channelmaster Sky Star antenna with an Alliance Tenna Rotor for the mast - the best of the best! We could almost receive transmissions from Scranton!

And I think I mentioned in another clip that I remember painting the house at the end. It can be seen in blue.

Quick Question:

Do you remember where Mack Trucks was in Trenton? This is slightly misleading.

PPS. this is TheSkipper .. since I have log in problems here.

I may be wrong, but Mack Trucks may have been in Ewing.

A Don Kneckel worked for them before he retired.

Hi SJ & Skip
A bit about John Dragan.
It was Dragon as a name for the store but his actual name Dragan.
He and his wife Irene lived on
112 Caroline Ave in Hamilton..one
of those streets off Lalor near
Jr4 I think.
John D was President of Dragon Inc.
Its VP was John W Weeast. Irene D
was Sec and Hilda Weeast was Treasurer.
John & Hilda W lived on Fenton Lane
in Bordentown. According to my records.

On Skips Mack Truck question I
have it listed in my directory but
that would be cheating so I aint
saying anything:)

Skipper ... log in stuff but !!

Right, it was right on the Ewing and Trenton line. On the corner of Stout and Princeton. Believe it or not there was a ramp that went to the second floor so they could work on trucks on both levels in a small building. Quite a thing for the eight year olds to watch. On occasion some of the bad kids would swipe a road flare from the box on the side of a truck and then we ... er .... the bad kid would light it off back in "the wood".
