Gino Maccaroni Sr.

From a net site:

Gino Maccaroni Sr.

Gino was born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey. As a young boy,
Gino's brother Al heard that Tony just remodeled the Casino
Restaurant and was hiring a soda jerk. Gino being employed at
the time at a local drugstore was familiar with operating the
soda fountains and was ready to make a change. Little did he
know how much of change that would turn out to be. He got the
job. That was where he met and eventually married Mary, the
daughter of the owner and that is where he would work from
1946 and eventually having become the owner himself.
On that first day, Canio sent his son, Michael to pick up
Gino at 2:00 pm for work. Gino started working at 2:00 pm
till 2:00 am that first week. Gino worked for 80 hours for
$20.00 that week. Gino's regular schedule was after school
from 4:00 pm to 12:00 midnight but many times put in longer
hours at the thriving restaurant. This was a very difficult
schedule for someone who was also attending Trenton Central
High School at the time. As some would say, Gino got the job
and the girl. Gino and Mary were married in 1950 and Gino took
over the operations of the Casino Restaurant.

I remember Gino very well at a time when my friend Sandy Napoleon lived on Coumbus Ave. in the 30s and 40s. I believe he was related to the Napoleons. When he got the job at the Casino, I figuered he was doing the right thing and it sure turned out great for him.

Hi Ralph:)

I wonder if the Napoleon family
you are speaking of had that
drug store on Chambers Street near
Roebling Avenue?

Mack: The Napoleons I refer to were not related to the drug store people. My friends were Sandy, Frank and Albert Napoleon and I'm pretty sure related to Al and Gino Maccaroni. I know it goes back a long time but I think I'm correct.
