Wetzel Field, 1957
This is Trenton Catholic High School's Baseball Team
at Wetzel Field:)
A Blog about the Chambersburg area of Trenton NJ. The Burg we all loved and miss. If you were from the Burg I hope many of the pictures and lists and comments under them from good folks bring back some nice memories. Villa Park, Franklin Park, South Trenton, and nearby Hamilton also mentioned. Use the search box atop the blog to find schools, churches, streets, stores, bars etc that you remember. Over 4000 posts and 3000 pics. Enjoy:)

I just got to see Wetzel Filed after 60 years. We didn't have a car and I had lunch with one of the "old time" Trenton ball stars (and soccer too), Ed Smolinski, a few months back. He finally showed me where it was. We didn't have a family car till much later so being a bit hidden, it was a first. I am confused however; I grew up near Hetzel field and was told that both parks were built and donated by the tile companies. Wenzel Tile and Hetzel tile ... but .... that the phonetic "Wetzel" name displaced the Wenzel name. True or false?
Hi supe:
According to Tom Glover's
magnificent blog It was named for Dr. William A. Wetzel, a noted Trenton educator, and first Principal of Trenton High School.
Thanks for clearing that up. Worse, my source, who is and expert at this isn't quite correct and he will pay for this. Now, a Rossi burger seems fair compensation doesn't it.
Hi Mack: It's a shame some people did'nt have a chance to see Wetzel Field in all its glory. The covered grandstand with a clubhouse for players and large bleachers on the sidelines. It was available for all schools and many leagues throughout the area. In addition, it featured a large playground beyond center field and was also used for soccer and football games. Much credit goes to the people at City Hall who created such a facility. Regards.
