Hi Mack: I'd like to again mention my dear friend the late Tony Frascella, president of the Chambersburg Little league for years. Like Catherine, he put in a lot of time in helping the kids of the Burg and others in enjoying the game of baseball. Tony and his wife Kate lived on Elmer St. and Kate lived there from the day she was born. They have passed away recently, may God Bless them .
Hi Ralph:)
Tell me some more about your
friend Tony Frascella and his
wife and I will make a post of
that:)
When you were very young, did
your Dad and Mom take you to
Columbus Park? Did you walk
thru Columbus Park on the way
to school?
Thanks again Ralph:)
Tony Frascella was one of a long line of Frascellas from Chambersburg and South Trenton. He worked for the State Highway Dept. and was the manager of teir baseball team in the City Industrial League. After he married Kate, he lived on Elmer St. and became involved with the Chambersburg Little League. He was president and chief organizer of the League along with cooking the hot dogs in the vending stand. I met Tony through my good friend Fred DeBronzo, and for a long while enjoyed their company. It's sad to believe most have passed away but their memories will forever linger, May God Bless Them. Best regards.
Speaking of Columbus Park, to most of my generation it was called "The Deafies". When I was young, I knew a few people who attended the School for the Deaf. After the school was torn down, it was quite a while before it was called Columbus Park.I remember the tennis courts and a small soft ball field. One of the tennis players who became pretty good at the game was Paul Napolitano. When we moved to Villa Park, all my time was at Wetzel Field.
