South Broad Street in Late Fall, The Burg

South Broad Street in Late Fall, The Burg
Wow I love this one:)
As a popular song from my Burg Days said:
"Time Passages, Years go falling in the fading light
Oh Time Passages, Buy me a ticket on the last train home tonight".
(Al Stewart, Time Passages, 1978)

When I see images like this, looking north on Broad towards the Skelton Branch on one side, and the RKO Broad on the other, I saw the same sight thousands of times when I was a kid.

In so many ways, the place remains the same. The Burg remains a working class neighborhood. The people of the Burg have always lived well and ate well on the few bucks they have. The streets look pretty much as safe as they always have. The crowd has changed from the "DeLorenzos" and the "Schusters" to the "Rodgiguez's", and that's OK.

I betcha some first class Caribbean restaurants in the Burg or South Trenton arise and get real famous. I also betcha that these folks move out to Hamilton, Ewing, or Lawrence in a generation or two, or move across the country like I did.

If you have to start out somewhere, the Burg has been a great place for well over a century.
