Joe Fratto Remembers The Burg

Joe Fratto Remembers The Burg

Joe Wrote:

How many of you remember Peronis restaurant on the corner of
Chambers and Roebling? Many days were spent there with the
original Old York Country Club group....naming: Sheiky Peroni,
Dickie Miele, Floyd Buzzi, Dr. Vince Pollaro, Frankie Cariello,
Mikey and Nick Russo, Rafey Campo, Fred Campo, Hook Forconi,
Sonny Avelino, Nicole, Joe Piscione just to name a few that
I still remember. We had a great group....travel all over to
play golf every Wed. and then in Feb. we set out to the south
either Orlando or Callaway Gardens in Georgia. The Old York
Gang was the best...never any fights amongst us or serious
arguments. For a group as such this was a milestone. My days
in the music business with Phil Allen as our agent from WBUD
were rememberable. Joe Russel and the Manhattans was the group
with George Quinty, myself, Gerry Rondinelli, Italian Charlie
and our piano player Mickey Fucello and at times Joe Vizzini.
Memories that I will always remember.

Thank you for this Joe, its great:)
God Bless The Old Burg

I remember this place well. Did Vince Pollaro become owner? I remember the Pollaros lived on Greenwood Ave and their son also had a dental office there.

That was the same location as Botal Inn. Later Penny's and then La Boheme.

Was Joe related to Jeanne Fratto, of "Smart Shop" fame?

Part of a Story About Trenton Golfers I found in the times
from 2005 that mentions a few names
Joe F does:

Henry Poreda didn't have to tell 15 of his best friends, because they were with him for his finest hour in golf.

''We go to Florida every year,'' he said. ''We call ourselves 'The Jersey Gang.' It's all guys from Trenton and Hamilton.''

Poreda's playing partners were Bob Binder and Dennis Taveel of Hamilton, and former Hamilton resident Larry Haines, now of Los Angeles. On the Jersey Gang travel squad were: Larry Peroni who lives in Trenton and Florida; Frank Cariello, former Trenton PAL director; Pat Wilder, a former Hamilton superintendent of schools; Mo Rossi of Trenton; Ronnie Steward and Ben Lee of Hamilton; Angelo Berretta of Washington Crossing, Pa.; retired Trenton police officer Teddy Pogo; Trenton native Joe Falzone, and retired Hamilton police officer Craig Patterson, who recorded a hole-in-one on the 2004 Jersey Gang trip.

In keeping with hole-in-one tradition, Poreda spent $50 on a round of drinks at the Carolina Club for his friends.

''That night we went to Mo Rossi's favorite Florida restaurant, Timpano's in Fort Lauderdale,'' he said. ''I went for $500 there.''

Poreda grew up in Trenton and was graduated from Trenton Catholic High School in 1958, where he ran track and cross country, but not as well as his brothers Ed, 77 and Ben, 75, the only Poreda brother still in search of his first ace. After a year at Trenton Junior College, he matriculated at Niagara University from which he was graduated in 1963

Tom Pass is correct.

This was also Penny's Beef & Ribs

and La Boheme.

I think it was something else
in my Burg day 70s 80s but can't
remember.

Worked there for Huck and Lucy with a trio featuring Tony Paris {Parziale} and Harry Conti. $13 bucks a night and a hamburger! Union scale.
