Blue Skies Over Hewitt Street, The Burg

Blue Skies Over Hewitt Street, The Burg
This is Hewitt Street between Anderson Street and Liberty
Street, which was part of my block.
A parking lot here was gravel but uneven and when it rained
it created puddles. So of course we boys got a cynder block
and board and tried to jump the puddles with our bikes.
I remember a kid playing drums (and playing well) as I walked
by his house to a popular song called "Hitching a Ride" by
Vanity Fair. I remember the Good Humor Ice Cream Truck coming
by (Bomb Pops !!). I remember we all put baseball cards in
our bike tire spokes. I remember chasing our dog down this
street when he would dig under our fence and escape.
I remember my Dad would come home early saturday afternoons
and take us to the store to spend our allowance..that would
get me off Hewitt Street. We had a swingset in our yard and
kids would come over and if their parents wanted them home
for supper or other reasons they could just shout from a
few fences down. Everyone had their most special places in
the Burg and when I was very young this was one of mine.

Hi Mack: Do you remember the Vogler family in your neighboorhood. There was Marty and his brothers who were terrific in sports. I believe they lived across the street from the Franklin School on William St. I played during Marty's time, at Jr.4 and many other times. That may have been back in the 30s and 40s but they may have still lived there when you did. Regards.

Hi Ralph:)
I have Voglers living on
406 Dayton Street and 1118
Dayton Street as the closest ones
in 1963. 406 Dayton sounds like
its near Franklin School:)
I see Martin Vogler as 9th grade
class of 1936 at Junior Four on the
Trenton Historical Society site and
George Vogler the class of 1939 Junior Four on the same site:)
