The Alley Next To The Soda Plant on Chestnut Avenue, The Burg

The Alley Next To The Soda Plant on Chestnut Avenue, The Burg
Immaculate Conception Church (our Church) and School was
across the street:)

UPDATE: SJBill points out that this was Davis Street and not
officially known as an alley. Its a dead end and a narrow
alley connects it with Swan Street.

This was Davis St, another "short cut" from THS to home. It was here where freshly bottled Cokes might "fall across the fence" into our hands while we were on our way home. Warm Cokes tasted great straight from the bottles.

We removed the bottle caps using a fence, a belt buckle or a bumper of somebody elses car -- we'd always find a way. There were always trucks from Crown Cork and Seal parked here, loaded with fresh bottle caps.

Davis Street was a dead-end, so we had to cut through a narrow alley to get back onto Swan St.

we used davis as a short-cut to swan via fabian's gulf station too.

another thing, fabian had a lot of old vehicles next to his shop at the end of davis.

being the street punks that we were, sometimes we would hang out in an old rusty delivery truck that was in the lot.

when you're a young teen, it's ok to do that.
