I was born at 104 Mott St. Those houses in the area are pretty
old. Our house had gas fixtures for lights, no electric.
Ice boxes instead of refrigerators, if you forgot to empty them,
you had water all over the kitchen. Ice houses did a big business
, I recall a lot of so called ice men. On the corner you show
was the Hudson Beer Garden, a terrific place for Italian food
and drinks.Regards, Ralph.

Heres your old house Ralph:)

Hi. Mack: I wonder if JoeB ever heard about the Chambersburg Red Sox.from his family. They played in the 20s but I'm sure they were around in the 30s. My brother was the catcher, Most of them lived on Mott St. I'm glad people like JoeB are still here to recall the glory days of Chambersburg. His family probably does. Regards, Ralph

Hi Ralph:)
You and JoeB are great for stuff like this:) Thank You:)
I never heard of the Chambersburg
Red Sox before and there is nothing
on the internet about them, so if
you folks didnt mention them, we would never know about them.
Good Work:)

Ralph:
Sorry to say I know nothing of the Red Sox, my family was not into sports.

Ralph:
When I lived at 117 Mott St. the Macchi's were living in that house. Later they moved to I think Emory Avenue where the father had a grocery store. The daughter was my sister's best friend and was the Maid of Honor at my sister's wedding.

E-mail me at jabattiste@gomail.com. Being in WW II I am sure you must know many of my family, the Chiorello and Battista's from Mott St. 28 and 50.
My GM at 30 Mott lived two doors from the Grandli's, who I am told was the street gas lighter in the early 1900, when gas lights were in use.

Hi Joe: The only people I recall in that block of Mott are the capassos. Lou Capasso was my brothers best man. Was'nt there a bakery in that block. Hey Brando: The Red Sox never played at Columbus Park (we called it the Deafies). They played mostly at Stacy Park and the American Bridge field in South Trenton.

Ralph:
The Capassos lived across the alley and the bakery was owned and run by Conte. My Grandfather worked there as a baker. I think the Capassos and the Conte's were related.

The garage behind 104 Mott was once used by the Capasso's for the bakery. The baery if I am not mistaken was on Hudson, and the house still has the large storefront window. Today that garage is owned by a good friend of mine.
