That's just the way I remember it.
There was usually rice on the steps and street from the weddings held on so many Saturday mornings.
Who rang the bells? It was music for the neighborhood.
I was an altar boy at many weddings there. As for the bells, in the old days it was Chorba bacsi who rang them, he used to ring the bells every morning at 6, then again at noon, and finally at 6 pm, as well as any funeral, wedding or special occasion. The things got modern, the bells were electrified and there was a switch on the organ so the oranist could ring them during any service, and as for the other times, they were on a timer, you must remember when the clock changed, the 6 in the morning bell would ring a 5 and every one got to work early..lol you are so right Bill, the bells were the charm of the area
