A Field of Glory Remembered, Franklin Park

A Field of Glory Remembered, Franklin Park.
This is the spot in Franklin Park where we played
football or whiffleball most often.
We would use the big field if we had a ton of folks with us
but mostly we played here.
A Typical game would come about unplanned and often it
was only 4 to 6 people. Thus we used this smaller side
field. Touch Football grew boring to us if the score
to win 1 game took too long so most games were 28 points
was the winner, no extra points, a Touchdown was 7.
So we could play 3 or 4 games. We mostly played touch
with a four-four thousand count rush to the Quarterback.
A first down was our guess if the play made enough yards.
We played tackle if it was mud or snow as that made it cooler
for some reason.
Often rules in neighborhood games might be adopted to suit the
conditions presented by the field or street or alley where it
was played.
This is where we were once legends of the gridiron and
diamond. When I was taking this picture I thought I heard the
voice of John Facenda over the sound of the breeze going
through the trees saying "Here, Mack threw the most masterful
legendary athletic glorious pass in history". Or maybe not:)

We had just as much fun at the Boys Club, playing wiffle ball and handball in the summer months.
