THE REV. MONSIGNOR THADDEUS J. "FATHER TED" WOJCIEHOWSKI,
of Lawrenceville, formerly a pastor in the East Keansburg
section of MIDDLETOWN,Born in Primrose, Pa., on May 30, 1916,
he soon moved with his family to Manville. While he was growing
up in Manville,the pastor of the local parish, Sacred Heart
Church, was Monsignor Francis A.Kasprowicz, whom Father Ted
would succeed in 1967 as pastor of Holy Cross Church in Trenton.
Father Ted prepared for the priesthood at St. Mary's College,
Orchard Lake, Mich., and St. Bernard's Seminary,Rochester, N.Y.
He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop William A. Griffin
in St. Mary's Cathedral, Trenton, on his 26th birthday,
May 30, 1942. His first assignment was associate pastor of St.
Stephen's Church, Perth Amboy on June 11, 1942. On Nov. 8, 1943,
he became associate pastor of St. Hedwig's Church, Trenton. Bishop
Griffin assigned Father Ted as pastor of St. Catherine's, East
Keansburg, on May 4, 1955. During his 12 years at St. Catherine's,
Father Ted built a parish school and convent. Father Ted was
appointed pastor of Holy Cross Church, Trenton, by Bishop George
W. Ahr on March 1, 1967. Pope John Paul II elevated Father Ted
as a Prelate of Honor to His Holiness on March 10, 1984. Father
Ted received the well-deserved title of Revered Monsignor Thaddeus
Joseph Wojciehowski. On Oct. 14, 1991,Monsignor Ted submitted his
resignation as Pastor of Holy Cross Church after reaching the
mandatory retirement age of 75. Monsignor Tedenjoyed the next
four years of "retirement" in residence at St. Jerome's Church,
West Long Branch.
