Christ Episcopal Church, Hamiton Avenue & Whittaker Avenue, The Burg

Christ Episcopal Church, Hamilton Avenue & Whittaker
Avenue, The Burg :)

From The NJ Churchscape site:

Christ Episcopal started, as many churches did in the 19th century
as a Sunday School, organized to serve a part of the city several
miles from the nearest Episcopal church sometime prior to 1885,
when regular Sunday evening services began. The church was built
in 1887. The design is a rather standard small-parish Episcopal
style, except for the clerestory windows that are normally found
only on much larger churches

Hey Mack, great photo as usual! My mom and dad were married in this church back in 1923. I turned Roman Catholic back in the 1960's, but my family remained as parishioners at Christ Episcopal until a controversial Priest took over and created two different schisms; Anglican vs a more liberal group. As a result, the church closed and the property sold.

Father Ely caused that problem. He lost the battle and took much of the congregation with him when he left.
