AS USUAL, AND EXQUISITE PHOTO MACK. TO THE LEFT OUT OF THE PICTURE US TODAY'S LEONARD AVENUE (FORMERLY KUSER AVENUE). TO THE RIGHT, WAY OUT OF THE PICTURE IS FERRANTE LAND (KNOWN TO DON SLABICKI AND ME AS THE "BACK LANE." SCAN FROM LEFT TO RIGHT AND TRY TO IMAGING ROWS OF CORN FILLING THE PHOTO. MY BUDDY DON AND I WORKED FOR JOE BERTOTHY, THE FARMER WHO LEASED THIS LAND FROM FRITZ AND EDNA KUSER. DON AN I HAD THE JOB OF HOEING THE HILLS OF CORN FROM LEFT TO RIGNT. IT TOOK ALL THE GROWING SEASON. WE WERE PAID 15 CENTS A ROW. THIS WAS MY OLD "STOMPING GROUNDS." I WORKED FOR THE KUSERS.

I think I know the land not in the
picture of which you speak.
We would sometime drive down a
dirt path near the firehouse on kuser road along the way to St
Anthony's football field or baseball fields:)
I am happy any folks make comments
I couldnt care less about spelling
errors..
And..... I did not notice any

When you worked for the Kusers
did you meet or see any of the famous people that we have been
told visited the place?
I sure did, Mack. My buddy Don Slabicki and I went to EVERY Sunday night movie (20th Century Fox) at the Kuser "mansion) from 1946 through the early 50's. One night before the movie began, Fritz Kuser came over to us and said, "Tommy and Donald, I'd like you to meet Oscar Hammerstein II." There were many others, including then Governor Meynor, tennis champ Eddie Moylan, and countless local celebrities and politicians. Don went to New York one day with Fritz Kuser and they had lunch at the 20th Century Fox commisary. Marilyn Monroe came in and sat in the booth behind them. Ahh the memories. (As luck would have it, I missed that trip to New York. I was home sick with a bug.
