212 Genesee Street, The Burg
Saint Stephen's Church.
This is a new picture of this beautiful building taken
2 days ago when I was in the Burg:)
A Blog about the Chambersburg area of Trenton NJ. The Burg we all loved and miss. If you were from the Burg I hope many of the pictures and lists and comments under them from good folks bring back some nice memories. Villa Park, Franklin Park, South Trenton, and nearby Hamilton also mentioned. Use the search box atop the blog to find schools, churches, streets, stores, bars etc that you remember. Over 4000 posts and 3000 pics. Enjoy:)

THESE LARGE PHOTOS YOU ARE TAKING OF VARIOUS SPOTS AROUND THE AREA ARE INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL! ANY OUT OF TOWN VISITOR TO YOUR SITE, OR ANYONE INTERESTED IN THE EVOLUTION OF THE LEGENDARY "BURG" WOULD DO WELL TO PRINT THEM OUT AND SCRAPBOOK THEM. THE CLARITY OF YOUR DIGITAL CAMERA IS EXQUIITE AND YOUR PHOTOS ARE ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!

Thank You Tom:)
When I started this blog I was
surprised at the lack of good pictures on the net for many Burg
area items. I have attempted to fill in the gap. I love folks
memories of many of these places:)
I was baptised in this church, was an altar boy, a lector, and in the choir, went to St Stephens school and now all is gone... Mack, did they finally sell the building yet, the rectory, church and convent, if so, do you know who bought them...
St. Stephen's was on our block. Though we were a Prostetant family, we love its presence. Father Kish was a great friend. Chorba-basci , the care-taker, chased us all over the neighborhood.
More than anything, I loved the tolling of the bells.
Mack, the image was taken from a parking lot across the street. This was the site of Joe Zazzo's house. Joe owned Parkside Motors in Bordentown - a Plymouth, Dodge and DeSoto dealer. We used to watch the original "Bandstand" in that house.

I do not know the current status
of sale of this church at this
time. I will try to find more on that.

Mack, I didn't notice the large for sale sign in your picture, when I was up in Trenton in May the sign was still there in front..
This truly saddens me: http://richardsoncommercial.catylist.com/jsp/listings/listing_overview.jsp?listingID=1941507
