Two World Views On June

Two World Views on June:)
There is a rhythm to things that keeps the ole world spinning.
When the calender hit June 1st, it dawned on parents all over
the Burg that their brats were theirs 24/7 for the summer.
Looking back, I don't seem to remember parents having as much
glee over this as we kids did. Strange.
Summertime for going to the parks, hanging on the porch,
hanging in the yard, going to Independence Mall or Quakerbridge
Mall, buying records at Broadway Record Center, going down
the Shore, going to Great Adventure..
All this and yet.............
I do seem to remember in late August when we were school
shopping at Atlantic Mills or Two Guys the glee scale was
reversed........:)

June was pure glee when you discovered your Trenton Parks playground attendant was cute (usually a teaching student from Trenton State), the summer playground equipment was set up and the big green box had lots of great new stuff in it.

I remember the Boy's Club on Beatty St. Swimming at Jr. 4. Sitting on the porch on a summer night with all the neighbors around chatting, doors open no fear. The pizza truck, waffle man, ice cream man and all the other vendors coming down the streets of South Trenton.

I know I've ssaid this before, but the Waffle Man was great!

It was Summer when the blind brothers with the HurdyGurdy came around to all the local bars.

Jr 4 swimming... boy's days and girls days.... I often wondered why the girls were allowed to waer bathing suits while the boys had to swim buck nekkid, and shower until you skin was ready to peel before being allowed into the pool, but I did learn to swim there

waffle man? boy's club on beatty? blind brothers w/ hurdy gurdy??? WOW...that was way before my time...LOL!!!

summer was awesome...the playground was one block away, park instructors and the weekly craft or project, QUOITS!!!..the free lunch..

i would leave my house with my bat and glove at 7 or 8 AM, play pickup baseball games and quoits at the playground all day....go home for dinner... and head back to the playground til 10 PM or so....all when i was like 8-10 yrs old!!!

NEVER worring about if it was safe to go outside...at any time...EVER!!!

kids just DO NOT know how to play pickup ball games anymore...it is really sad...they only know how to play organized ball games with their parents' involvement

...and the kids stay confined in the house all day with the wii and computer.

Other things I remember are:
Climbing a street sign or stop
sign pole. Bouncing a superball
which then landed on HomeSeals
roof.. oops..
I think Mr Partyka (?) was the
pool lord over at Jr#4 for a few
70s summers..he pronounced my
name MOIK, which is fine as there
is no one correct way to say it and he was cool.
Getting those balsa wood planes
from the hobby shop:)
Driving my bike to the Independence Mall:)
The door to our house was never locked if someone was home, no need to lock it.
Kool Aid Ice Cubes :)

Was Mr. Partyka's first name Frank?
Not 100% sure about Jr 4 but he surely graduated with me from THS. Great pitcher!

OMG, Atlantic Mills! And C&D Shoe Store for school shoes (I think the nuns had a commission coming on all those shoes - they actually SPECIFIED exactly which shoes were to be purchased as part of each year's "uniform")! :-D
