50 Ferry Street, South Trenton

50 Ferry Street, South Trenton
Once upon a time this was
the South Trenton Liberty Club
according to my records:)

SJBill Adds:

This place was South Trenton's Farmer's Market building. It was located just across John Fitch Way from parking lot on The River where everybody went to go catch herring each Spring. Not as big as the Farmers' Market up on Prospect Street, here, a few truck farmers would be here during the Summer months to sell tomatoes and corn.

Some pretty mean projects were across the street, but it looks a though that's been cleaned up a bit.

I used to be the manager at the "mean" project, Kerney Homes, I was surprised and pleased to see on my last visit up to Trenton that they have torn down the project and are putting up town houses.. have no idea who would spend $200 thousand to live in that area... new construction will not change the area except for looks..

Mack, I believe this may have been the main Farmer's Market for Trenton before the Spruce St market opened up. It was a small piece of property and the market outgrew the space. A Mr. Weber was the manager and he was also the manager at the new facility. Another reason it may have moved, was the fact that during the big flood of 1956, the complete property was under water. This was one of the worst floods to hit Trenton. I remember Warren St. being under water.
