A Liberty Street View, The Burg.
Taken from the Alley between Dinger Brothers Iron Works
and Liberty Deli. This is looking towards South Clinton
Avenue. This is the 800 block of Liberty Street where I
grew up:)
A Blog about the Chambersburg area of Trenton NJ. The Burg we all loved and miss. If you were from the Burg I hope many of the pictures and lists and comments under them from good folks bring back some nice memories. Villa Park, Franklin Park, South Trenton, and nearby Hamilton also mentioned. Use the search box atop the blog to find schools, churches, streets, stores, bars etc that you remember. Over 4000 posts and 3000 pics. Enjoy:)

Remember the night of the Dinger Brothers Fire, we thought our car's parked in thw driveway were toast. Bill Barber
Hi Bill:)
I remember that day.
I was on the riverfront where the
old abandoned US Steel Plant was.
There was an old black man who caught fish in the river and sold them from his truck, he was fishing
and relaxing. The river was low so
we walked under the Trenton Makes
bridge. Why? Because we could:)
I think it was late afternoon when
we began to see the smoke cloud.
As I was walking home trying to
guess where the fire was I turned
onto Liberty Street from Woodland
Street and saw it was Dinger Brothers on fire. I was worried
for all the folks on the block
including your family and mine. The fire did melt the siding of a home or 2 and Dinger Brothers paid to fix that. I remember afterward
Dinger Brothers had something folks
signed in Liberty Deli that allowed
them to rebuild. My guess was they
had grandfathered zoning and could
continue to operate if the neighbors said it wasnt a problem.
Speaking of Neighbors, who might
we meet in the neighborhood long
ago? Mary & Ernie Pabers, The Kimbles (Johnny & Jill), The Noto's (Benny & Claire), The Allens (Richard, Donna, Terry, John),
The Mahers (Dan & Patricia), Carol & Harry Merrion,
Pat Pratico, Red Moran, The Wenzels, Joe Antinoro, Mrs Molnar.
The Lucari's (Dawn Dave Gus).
A few last names I have forgotten:
Kelly & Lori from Hewitt Street
(ands their Mom Charlotte).
Andy who had Liberty Deli for a bit. Aunt Florence (who lived in between us), Don & Ann (?) Who also
lived inbetween us.
Wow, thats a walk down memory
lane:)
Don and Ann Farfella, she had MS and when they had the baby she was quite sick, they moved to Hamilton afer we left in 1980
Thank you for Don & Ann's
last name:)
