A Blog about the Chambersburg area of Trenton NJ. The Burg we all loved and miss. If you were from the Burg I hope many of the pictures and lists and comments under them from good folks bring back some nice memories. Villa Park, Franklin Park, South Trenton, and nearby Hamilton also mentioned. Use the search box atop the blog to find schools, churches, streets, stores, bars etc that you remember. Over 4000 posts and 3000 pics. Enjoy:)

These images are gems!
I remember them both and miss them dearly. Mrs. Blumenthal was a wonderful behind the counter.
The picture doesn't show the bread slicing machine, behind and just to the left of where the photographer was standing for Deborah's picture.
I cannot tell you how many times I went into that store to get a loaf of bread.
Blumenthals' bread went with chicken soup (of course the chicken came from Chambersburg Poultry Market, on Tuesdays).
New Colonial or Italian People's bread went with spaghetti (on Wednesdays).
I LOVED THE SALTED CRESCENT ROLLS WITH WHIPPED BUTTER, The Sunday routing was mass at St Stephen's then to Blumenthal's for rye bread and crescent rolls, I used to eat 2 rolls before I got home, especially if they were still warm.. You are right, Mrs B (as we called her) was a sweetie, I used to work with her son Herb at the State house..
Nothing better than fresh rye bread with or without...sliced on the piano-wire slicer. Many slices eaten before getting it home to Beatty St.
