Wetzel Field, Chambers Street & Liberty Street, Villa Park

Wetzel Field, Chambers Street & Liberty Street, Villa Park.
The bleachers behind home plate are no longer there and that
building behind the bleachers where we jumped on the roof
so long ago is gone as well. But the Diamond is right where
it was and the place looks like it did over 30 years ago:)

Spent hundreds of hours at Wetzel Field. Parks and Rec employees provided games, etc. in the summer near corner by Liberty and Chambers. In spring and summer ball games played in front of the wooden grandstand at Bert and Morris. Soccer games played other times on field laid out near Commonwealth and Morris. Steven Archibald Zimmerman was friend of my brother and his family lived on Liberty with backyard facing Wetzel Field. Major decisions in summer were: go play at Wetzel Field or go swimming (Trenton HS (M/W/F)/Jr. 2 (Tue/Thur)). Would stop at Fausti's on Revere to buy soda, candy.

Wetzel Field was great, my sons and I played baseball in the summer there when the Scroths were not practicing. My younger son Jeff was always down there with them and our last summer there they made him batboy. Good memories.

Ahhh.. Wetzel Field.. My friend Linda Seaman (now Lynn Kleinman) would ride our bikes there. I had a big time crush on Richie Matlock.
